About Us

Madi's Mission is a certified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization originally founded by Chloe Chanmaly, Lauren Jennings, Wanda Thomas, Penny Smith, and Helen Britt.

We were inspired to start this project because of our personal experience with childhood cancer and how it affects not only the child that is diagnosed but also their entire family. Madison Thomas, or "Madi" is the daughter of Wanda Thomas, our Director of Advocacy, and the cousin of President Chloe Chanmaly. Madi was diagnosed with kidney cancer at only one year old. Hospital visits, surgery, bloodwork, and chemotherapy became regular events for Madison. Her family was immediately burdened by unexpected hospital bills, as well as long nights in the hospital, and due to Brenner Children's Hospital's policy for flu season, Madison's six-year-old sister could not visit her. This process has allowed us to see firsthand the impact of just one child's diagnosis. This was the catalyst for our project, discovering how we can make life as comfortable as possible for children diagnosed with cancer and their loved ones.
